“It’s not what you sell that matters as much as how you sell it.” – Brian Halligan, CEO & Co-Founder, Hubspot
How your messaging can drive the success or failure of your marketing strategy.
As we dive headfirst into 2022, we, like many marketing professionals, are currently reviewing and planning our business and marketing strategies for the year. Part of our job is to understand the importance of developing a strong and thorough strategy, however, many forget to review (or for some even create) a marketing message.
A marketing message is defined as a compilation of words that are used to communicate with your target audience with the goal of them choosing to do business with you. Your marketing message should be at the heart of your marketing strategy and not only communicate your message but should evoke feeling within the customer.
A strong marketing message can help build trust, reputation, boost sales and much more. With 81% of consumers agreeing that they need to trust a brand before purchasing from them, your marketing message is an ideal way to build trust and a solid reputation. A strong messaging may mean the difference between customers choosing you over a competitor.
So how does one craft a strong marketing message?
Here are a few considerations.
- Know your audience. Don’t just acknowledge their needs, get into the nitty-gritty by knowing how to reach your customers, speak their language, be relatable, likeable and understand their needs.
- Keep it short and sweet. No need for fluff or run-on sentences, keep your audiences’ attention with concise messaging by getting straight to the point. For example, one of our favourite partners, Hubspot, showcases this by marketing themselves as “helping millions grow better.”
- Leave no room for interpretation. No questions should be left unanswered.
- Know your solution. Show your value and know your stuff, after all, you are the expert.
- Stand out from the crowd. Break the status quo, be creative and challenge your customers to think outside the box.
As a PR and marketing agency we are consistently adjusting our messaging to not only appeal to our customers but to also keep up with the fast-moving marketing and communications industry. With new technology, software, tactics, strategies and more, we must be at the top of our game to be top of mind with our clients.
